Here at Casual Films we’re beginning the process of registering our filmmaking academy as a social enterprise.
Now, first let’s define what a social enterprise means, shall we?
“A social enterprise is an organization that applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements in human and environmental well-being - this may include maximizing social impact rather than profits for external shareholders.”
Ok…what does this all mean? Well, I’m glad you asked!
It means we have a socio economic duty to uphold in our communities. Basically, we’re not all about profits; we’re about giving back to society and improving the social dynamics of certain communities that are in need of change.
We want to provide young aspiring filmmakers of the UK, who reside in the Islington or Hackney areas, are all between the ages of 16-24 and are of any background the chance to learn the entire filmmaking process.
We take immense pride in our academy as it affords us with the opportunity to deliver pro bono video content for a variety of charities.

There are a myriad of reasons as to why this is a good cause, socio economically speaking of course. A) It gives young and upcoming artists the chance to jumpstart their dreams. B) More films are being made, which is always a great thing! C) The work is done over an eight-week period where the Academy students, through our guidance produce a film in response to an actual charity’s brief. D) Many of our students will soon graduate from our academy, which means we’ll be able to promote from within. Hooray for building! E) This point ties in with “D” we pay a living wage, which allows our employees to live in respective areas of the country. F) It's for charity!
